Why should I forgive them, they hurt me?

Forgiveness! We are taught from a young age that we must forgive people. That we must not hold grudges towards people. This truly is hard. Sometimes, people do things to you and you feel that things will never be the same. Forgiveness does not mean that you will go back to having the exact same relationship with that person, but it means that you have decided to move forward and no longer hold on to the pain. Sometimes, we will end up forgiving people who never even apologised to us in the first place, but this is our job as Christians and daughter’s of God. Forgiving someone does not make you superior to them, you should not walk around boasting that you have forgiven X, Y and Z but you should forgive them and move forward. Forgiving people is not always for the other person, it is for you. Mark 11:24-25 stresses the importance of forgiveness and it highlights a key issue. How can we expect God to forgive us for the life that we led before our salvation and for the times that we fall short of his standards whilst we are saved if we cannot even forgive others? How can we expect so much from God when we refuse to do something so little? If God is willing to forgive us, we must be willing to forgive one another. I pray that as daughters of God, we will be able to move forward and remove any animosity that we have in our hearts and to understand that we will be free once we forgive. In Jesus name,

Amen
