If I could just touch the hem of His garment…

It is so easy to believe but so hard to have faith. My favourite definition of faith is in the New Living Translation where it says that ‘faith is confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.’ So with faith, nothing is impossible. Especially if we believe that God can and will provide. The Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke all speak about the healing of a sick woman. This woman had been bleeding for twelve years, she had tried all sorts of remedies. She heard that there was a man named Jesus who had the power to heal people and was able to bring people back to life. At this time there was a crowd surrounding Jesus as he was on his way to heal Jairus’ daughter. This woman had faith because she was confident that she would be healed by Jesus. Unlike the other’s in need of a healing who would ask Jesus to perform a miracle, this woman had faith that all she needed to do was touch the hem of Jesus’ garment and she would receive this healing. She didn’t ask Jesus to pray for her, or to lay his hands on her, she had such great faith in Jesus that she knew that what to many seemed like a simple act would bring about her healing. Bear in mind that they are all walking in a crowd so many people had ‘touched’ Jesus and this was pointed out to Jesus by his disciples when he asked who touched him. So despite many people touching Jesus, it was the faith that this woman had in the power of Jesus not the touch that healed her. Jesus tells this woman ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.’ (Mark 5:34, NLT). How incredible! If we have faith, nothing whatsoever is impossible. We will get our breakthrough if we have faith because we serve a God who is able to provide all of our needs, God has many promises for us and he will never forsake us. There is a song by the gospel artist Nicole C. Mullen called One Touch and this really summarises that faith that this woman had, it is truly beautiful. I pray that as daughter’s of God, that we will come to realise that we serve a God who can provide everything that we desire and more and that all we need is faith that God can and will. In Jesus name,

Amen
