God’s will for you?

Have you ever wondered what God’s will for you was? God has a plan and purpose for every single one of us; some are called to preach, some are called to sing, some are called to write, some are called to support and the list goes on. Sometimes we may desire to be in a certain position or even aspire to be, but we must first ask, what is God’s will for us? Friends and family may be pushing you to go in a certain direction telling you to become a doctor or a lawyer but if that is not God’s will for you then you should not go down that path because as Galatians 1:10 reminds us, as servant’s of Christ we must not seek to please man but we must seek to please God. God is not going to judge us by the amount of money that we make, things like that only impress the world, God just wants us to know him and to serve him and to try and life a try that is according to his word. The very fact that that scripture also refers to us as servant’s shows us one of God’s plans for us. God wants us to serve! God wants us to serve him wholeheartedly! One of the ways in which we can serve him is to obey him and also to strive to be Christ-like. However, many of us want a more specific answer when it comes to knowing what God’s will for us is. We each have talents, God did not give us talents for us to boast about, God gave us talents so that we can give God all of the glory. Look at singers for instance, they have the choice to use their voice to spread the gospel or to sing secular music. We all have a choice when it comes to using our gift but the right thing to do is to use our gift to give honour to the one who gave it to us. Romans 12:2 says

“Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (NLT).”

Therefore in order for us to know or realise God’s will for us, we must first die to our old self, we must be passive and allow God to take control of our lives and our minds so that we will be able to hear him when he speaks to us. I pray that as daughters of God that we will listen to God and seek to know what God’s will for us is. I pray that when we find out what God wants us to do that we will obey him and not second-guess him or try to tweak what it is that God wants us to do but to serve God wholeheartedly by following exactly what he wants us to do. I pray for those of you who do not yet know what God’s plan for you is and I pray that you will not give up, but that you will wait on God for his answer. I pray that we will not compromise our faith to fit in with the world. In Jesus’ name,

Amen
