Jesus already did it!

I have realised lately that despite the fact that we are Christians, we still look for heroes in this world. How can we expect to find heroes in this world that will truly satisfy us, if we are not of this world? It’s a bit like trying to find a wild lion in captivity. After the recent sinking of the South Korean ferry, there was a huge uproar. People were judging and condemning the captain of the ferry, they were asking why he didn’t save the children. He became the target. They focused on him more than on the lives that were lost. But what did we expect him to do? Would you have risked your life for thousands of people who you do not know? But that’s not the point. Why were we expecting him to save them? To call him a hero or to satisfy our minds knowing that there are still good people in the world? Don’t you realise that Jesus is the true hero. Why do we still look for heroes when Jesus has already done it all? He sacrificed His life not for thousands of people who He did not know, but for the world who He knew but who refused to know Him or did not know Him. He sacrificed His life for us even though we weren’t even born. John 15:13 tells us “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friend.” Jesus represents the greatest possible love. We can look all over this world but we will never find a love that is greater than His, we can look for this kind of love in heroes, in celebrities, in family members or even in friends. But His love is the greatest! It is so easy to put all your hope in people, but when they let you down, you can only blame yourself. Put all of your hope in Christ and He will never fail you. He is better than any superhero, He is the greatest friend that you will ever have! I pray that as daughter’s of God that we will stop looking in this world for heroes and that we will realise that Jesus is the only one who can and will save us. He is the only one who will never let us down. He is the only one who will always be with us. I pray for the friends and family members of those who lost their lives in the ferry sinking and for all of those in the world who are grieving, I pray that they will open up their hearts to God and allow Him to work in them. In Jesus’ name,

Amen
