The Rainbow

She didn’t know what she was looking for,
Or where she planned on going,
She was searching for something,
Something more,
Something new,
Something different.
Different than what she was used to,
She took two steps out of her comfort zone and froze.
She didn’t really have a plan,
She just knew that she wanted to find herself,
But she didn’t want to be too cliche about it,
She didn’t want to go to another country,
Or meet knew people,
She was searching for her purpose in her own unique way,
She was searching for something,
She couldn’t say what,
But she knew that she’d know when she found it.
So off she went for a jog.
Yes a jog.
No earphones,
Just her running shoes and her legs,
They were all that she needed to take her to where she wanted to go,
As her sole hit the floor, her soul would…,
Actually no,
That was her heart that was racing.
She was running,
Not away from something,
But towards something,
With the sweat dripping down her forehead she just hoped that it was worth it.
Then she realised that some of what she thought was perspiration was actually precipitation,
It started off lightly and then it began to pour,
She didn’t see any point in turning back,
She would still get wet,
So she kept on running,
Sprinting,
Then stopping,
She kept on moving.
She wasn’t sure if she had ran to an area where there was no rain or if the rain had stopped altogether,
But she could see a bit of sun shining,
But that wasn’t what caught her eyes,
It was the rainbow,
The colourful arc,
It was beauty in its most purest form,
A reminder of a promise,
A covenant,
A sign that no matter what happened,
She was not alone,
She could run to the other side of the world,
But no matter what, God would still be by her side.

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”  So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.”
Genesis 9:12-17
