She Speaks

Does my worth lie within my child bearing hips?
Or better yet is it found in the perceived juiciness of my lips?
Do my periods make me dirty or simply make you uncomfortable?
Because I’m yet to read the story of where Jesus washed his cloak after SHE touched HIM.
Does my dress sense mean more than my consent?
Do my eyes tell a story that my mouth does not dare to speak?
Do my scars whisper words or are they signs of my defeat?
Does my worth lie in your misconceptions of my capability?
Or am I much more than what you think of me?
Does my worth lie in who I am or who I dream to be?

When she speaks do you hear her?
When she speaks do you fear her?

She speaks because for many years she has been silenced,

She speaks because she has overcome much more than domestic violence,
Her son has died, her husband left her,
Her daughter cried, her friends reject her,
Her mother lied, her dad neglects her,
She speaks because for many years she felt like no-one would accept her,
She prayed before she slept hoping that God would not forget her,
She speaks because she can.

When she speaks do you hear her?

When she speaks do you fear her?

Does my worth lie in you?
Or have I simply made it so?
A broken and fragile soul, simply afraid to let go,
If my worth lies in you then is there a me without we?
Incomplete but not obsolete, a product of your affection,
Doing everything I can to simply gain your attention,
You set my price and I oblige,
I’m stuck and can’t get out,
If my worth lies in you, will I ever just be me?

When she speaks do you hear her?
When she speaks do you fear her?
The woman’s voice,
The young girl’s cry,
The daughter’s shout,
She speaks a million words,
She tells a thousand stories,
She is marvellous and strong,
She is a creation and not Adam’s sidekick,
Designed to be a Queen and never Solomon’s sidechick,
She is me,
She is us,
She is we.
